This center was previously called Core Curriculum Division for two-year program. When the school was reorganized into National Chin-Yi Institute of Technology (NCIT), it was upgraded as General Education Center on July 1st, 1999, responsible for fundamental general courses and liberal arts curriculum. In 2007, NCIT was upgraded as National Chin-Yi University of Technology and the center was thereafter renamed and restructured as Fundamental Education Center, while the establishment of College of General Education on August 1st, 2010.
There are 25 recruited faculty members, including 9 professors, 7 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, and 3 instructors, all of whom are experienced and successful in the field of education. The center employs a qualified staff to support the institute's educational purposes.
The Missions
The center offers five required courses, Chinese, History and Culture, Calculus, Constitution and Democracy, Art Appreciation, and Music Appreciation for all undergraduate students. The mission statement calls for an education of enhancing students’ solid background of fundamental general courses and develop their liberal, social and scientific literacy. It is expected that students may be educated to contribute to society with their sophisticated knowledge, linguistic skills, and honest personality.
Future Developments
Besides the required courses to be taken by any given major, the center also strives to offer many more elective liberal arts courses to benefit students academically. Innovative teaching methods as well as new technologies are integrated with curriculum to attain best effect. It is hoped to recruit more faculties with diverse expertise in the near future to develop an interdisciplinary program for preparing students to take social responsibility and face social challenges.
